Compositor brasileiro transforma “O Sétimo Selo”, de Ingmar Bergman, em ópera na Suécia

Um dos mais cultuados filmes do diretor sueco Ingmar Bergman foi transformado em ópera pelas mãos de um brasileiro. Nesta terça-feira (28), o compositor João MacDowell apresenta na Suécia a adaptação musical do icônico “O Sétimo Selo” (1957), que terá sua estreia mundial como parte das comemorações do centenário de nascimento de Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007).

A ópera “O Sétimo Selo” canta a alegoria medieval de Bergman, em que um cavaleiro, que retorna das Cruzadas para uma Suécia devastada pela peste negra, enfrenta a Morte em um jogo de xadrez.

“Penso que “O Sétimo Selo” é talvez o texto mais importante do século XX. Eu o coloco lado a lado com Shakespeare. Trata-se de um texto riquíssimo, de grande poesia, e é realmente um privilégio estar trabalhando com esse material”, disse à RFI o compositor brasileiro João MacDowell, nascido em Brasília e radicado em Nova York desde 2002.

A obra foi composta por MacDowell por sugestão da Fundação Bergman, durante um período de residência artística do brasileiro na casa do cineasta sueco, na ilha de Fårö – onde Ingmar Bergman viveu e trabalhou durante 40 anos, até à sua morte. No total, Bergman rodou cinco longas de ficção e dois documentários na ilha.

“Passei dois verões na casa de Bergman, na ilha de Fårö. Isso foi muito importante, porque, por um lado, houve uma experiência espiritual, de ser abraçado por um artista que tinha sido muito importante para mim. Também pude vivenciar um ambiente muito produtivo, trabalhando com os arquivos do Bergman. Eu não teria chegado nesta ópera se não tivesse tido aquela oportunidade”, observa o compositor.

Cantada em sueco, a ópera terá duas apresentações no Museu de Arte Moderna (Moderna Museet) de Estocolmo.

Adaptar Bergman na Suécia, para os suecos

“É realmente um desafio e uma grande responsabilidade fazer Bergman na Suécia, para suecos”, diz MacDowell. “Tenho uma sorte muito grande de ter sido escolhido para fazer este projeto, e para ter uma residência na casa de Bergman. Eu sempre soube que, embora meu sueco, por mais que eu aprendesse, nunca seria perfeito ao ponto de poder entender todos os detalhes da língua para escrever uma ópera, aqui eu teria a certeza de encontrar colaboradores, como os cantores com quem estamos trabalhando, que foram extremamente importantes para lapidar esta partitura.”

Sob regência de João MacDowell e direção artística do sueco Bengt Gomér, a ópera reúne sete solistas e um coro de dezesseis vozes, além de cinco instrumentistas. A montagem é uma co-produção entre a International Brazilian Opera Company, fundada por MacDowell em 2014, e a Associação Cultural Suécia-Brasil (Föreningen för svensk och brasiliansk kultur – FSBK).

Espetáculo viaja a São Paulo

Esta será a estreia mundial da partitura vocal da ópera, em formato de câmara. A apresentação da versão completa da ópera, com orquestra e grande coro, será realizada em São Paulo, em novembro.

Segundo a produtora Clarice Goulart, da Associação Cultural Suécia-Brasil, serão três concertos no Conservatório de Tatuí e no Centro Cultural Baía dos Vermelhos, em Ilhabela.

“O fato de o Brasil ser o país que mais licencia as obras de Ingmar Bergman ainda hoje, e sendo o “Sétimo Selo” o filme icônico que ele é, imensamente atual mesmo depois de mais de 60 anos desde o seu lançamento, faz dessa ópera entre as poucas de cunho internacional cantadas em sueco e a primeira em sueco composta por um brasileiro, um patrimônio cultural imensurável não somente para o Brasil e a Suécia, mas sim mundial”, diz a produtora cultural.

O próximo estágio do desenvolvimento da obra de João MacDowell será a incorporação à ópera “O Sétimo Selo” de elementos de encenação, com roupas, figurinos e cenários.
